This was a ghost story, eventually.
I wake up from a dream where someone handed me a photo of a basketball team that I instantly recognize as having coached, helped with, but I don't think played on, which was weird because there was one guy that was vaguely Indian looking (as in India) that was an adult on what was clearly a youth team. Twin boys, some girls, blue team tshirts, all sweaty from having played or practice. "I'd forgotten all about that team!" I said to no one in particular, but it felt like there was someone there. You know how dreams are...
Then there was someone there, but after I thought I saw something eerie. She wasn't my wife (yet, she turned into her, or at least the characters in my dream were married), but she was sitting on the bed clothed while i was sleeping. "I didn't do anything stupid while i was sleeping, like touch your chest or snore?" No, you didn't do anything like that." I think I told her about the photo, and that I didn't feel like I was alone when we saw someone with us, but then gone, then another. Clearly ghost story time! She knew who they were, which was weird because we weren't at home, this was in the south (but maybe not Houston where I am right now). The hotel room became the bedroom of a larger place, as we were seeing these spectres. they were people from her past, but not ones that I knew of, or why there was something unreconciled and why we were seeing them fleetingly.
I was outside, looking in a yard, towards a descending slope through some bushes or growth, there was a view, maybe of a river, and I turned back towards the house/builidng/b&b and she was in the yard, and for some reason I kicked a ball towards her, and she kicked it back.
She was in the basement maybe, but not with me and said something a bout the day of the pig (?). The other character (i think another female) inquired about that and she pointed to the stairs that were all written over (on the risers and the floor under the exposed staircase) with symbols and writing that were, in my mind as the viewer/dreamer, supposed to appear Satanic....
And that's where that cinematic dream ended. I was actually dozing in and out a little, which may account for he shifts in scenes. I wanted very much to remember this one so I could write it down!

Dreams, Dreams, Dreams
I had another memorable dream, enough to share....
I was in a sketchy-ish part of town, on foot, similar to a route I take to pick up one of my kids from school, but the dream version of it. Not much to recall from the first part, but I ended up running (for exercise: in this dream, I was a runner, which I am not currently) and met some local kids, not sure what they were up to, maybe no good, maybe just hanging out, so I engaged them in conversation (as I do), and invited them on my run to give them something constructive to do, and to train them about how to run.
I am not a runner, but, as previously mentioned, I am a volunteer coach and have been one for a long time. This dream made me out to know enough about running and training for whatever I was training for to be a mentor running coach for the brief run before the alarm went off. We ran through some vacant buildings, industrial-ish, in the neighborhood. Dodged some adults that would have wondered what we were doing!
So, if there is meaning, I assume it will present itself eventually, but I do think I need to break out the new pair of Adidas I bought because they were on sale a few months ago...

Dream A Little Dream
This story starts with another story, from a while back in my college days.
A professor of Literature, in this case of a newly-created class on archetypes in literature, started by describing a dream in which he was standing over a field, planted some seeds (if memory serves), and knelt to tend and wave his hands over the seedlings so that they would grow. I can see him kneeling on the classroom floor. He then assumed that this was about this new class and his students, a brilliant lead-in to archetypes. Great class, learned a lot.
The other night I had a dream, now getting dimmer, about being out and about and running into 2 boys and some parents, that we didn't know, but, as I do, I engaged them in conversation. One of the boys said something about being bad at something (a sport or school, now I can't remember! argh) and I immediately said "you can do it, of course you can.: I encouraged him to keep working. It felt right, perfect, and good.
There is some context, of course, that may have caused the dream, or affected it. My older son was just cut from the pool of basketball hopefuls, and there was talk of the life lesson there; sometimes you work very hard for something and still don't achieve it. My younger son and I (the coach) lost in the first round of our soccer tournament, ending our season rather abruptly. Also, I was talking to a colleague that is on the facility staff, she cleans up. She's a single mother and we chat fairly often about life ans stuff and I gave her a little pep talk about life stuff recently, joking that I'm preparing for my career as a Motivational Speaker. She replied that I should totally do that.
So, what's in a dream? Is the dream a reflection of my experiences, or is it a message? Is it a distillation of my experiences into some sort of lesson, or is just a reaction?
Not sure, but it sure felt like a revelation to me, that my ability to make people feel better about themselves, their circumstances and their abilities is what I'm supposed to be doing in life.
Hmmm.

I Make Movies In My Dreams
Not that I had a dream about a movie, but a dream that could have been one.
I had a job, somewhere, it was new, some kind of computer job, maybe tech supportish (which I don't do) but I know I had a change of clothes, and that I found a little shared office with a couch/cot/bed in it that I was going to sleep. There was a photo of four guys (two white, one light skinned black, one Indian) and/or a notebook, and it was signed by one of them, one that survived a mountain hike where "one got left on the mountain."
The guy that used the other half of the shared office mumbled something about it belonging to the other guy that worked there, who was definitely of Indian (the country) heritage, but American. Where he was and why I was using his space to bed down for the night (I had "worked" in another spot across the hall of something) wasn't clear. This morphed into seeing bits of the hike, including parts of them carrying a wrapped body down a rocky trail. Then more scenes of them climbing up, including the victim of the story (the black guy) getting weak, but soldiering on, then getting groggy, unable to focus, and them exchanging concerned looks. Lying him down by a fire, the top of his head almost in it, all showing like footage shot for a show, all in color. I specifically remember them trying to get him to eat, but he groggily waved his hands like he couldn't grasp the food much like an old sleepy nursing home occupant might (as opposed to waving it away). Other bits of getting ready to hike/climb (but not technical climbing at all, definitely a more recreational camping hike gone bad, but it didn't look like he should have died in the dream), and maybe scenes of a rescue of someone else or news-like glimpse of either a rescue of body recovery.
As always, I wish I could remember more, it fades so fast. It had all the elements, though: a frame story of me (or whoever it was) in an unfamiliar place, discovering a relic, which leads to an explanation of the relic and seeing the resulting story unfold that the relic is a part of (or a memento of). I awoke before the wrap up and ending frame part. Dangit! I always miss the ending.
I have these seemingly original story dreams fairly often, I had several vivid ones on vacation over Christmas (on the boat), which I figured may have come from the Scopolamine patch I was wearing, but that wasn't the case last night! I don't think that that is one of the side effects, anyway, according to my ridiculously brief Wiki reading.
